About Dr Peng W Seah

MB BCh BAO(Belfast) FRACS

Dr Seah completed his medical training at the Queen’s University of Belfast (UK) and graduated in 1987, after which he moved to Australia to continue his medical career. He developed his interest in cardiothoracic surgery whilst working at Prince Henry Hospital under cardiothoracic surgeon Dr David Newman and completed Basic Surgical Training in 1993.

Advanced surgical training followed from 1994-2000 with rotations through St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne, and the Prince of Wales and Westmead Hospitals in Sydney. Additional specialist training was obtained working in 2001 as a Cardiac Surgical Fellow at The Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School working under Professor Laurence H Cohn. It was his experience here that shaped his particular interest in Mitral Valve Repair and Minimal Access Cardiac Surgery.

He has been treating patients as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon in the Hunter New England region, primarily in the Newcastle area, since 2004. By attending and participating in conferences and workshops both in Australia and overseas, he continues to develop his professional interests and keep himself informed in his field. Dr Seah is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle. His past appointments include Supervisor of Cardiothoracic Surgical Training and Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at John Hunter Hospital.
